While I was busy getting covered in rust, Waxoyl and mud, my engine was living the good life at Dreadnought Garage.
A complete strip down and rebuild was underway - the only professional piece of work to be inflicted upon the poor vehicle. Probably the one item that will be going when the rest has long since rusted or fallen off.
Owner and technician Brian Luti - himself a Range Rover enthusiast with a Supercharged 3.9 - said that he had never seen a V8 with so much black goo on the heads.
Not the most reassuring statement, but it was not all bad news. A compression test had shown that the bore and the pistons were in good shape, to the point that you could still see the honing marks in the bore.
